If you do not know, Faith Dell is a junior here at The Winchendon School. Faith represents hard work and dedication to everything she does. She is a day student who resides in Peterborough, New Hampshire. She had recently obtained a job at Pearl Restaurant and Oyster Bar in Peterborough.
Faith is a busy junior who has to manage her work life as well as school life. Faith was asked if it was difficult to balance both school and work. She responded with, “The only time I face difficulties is when it comes to the amount of free time I have after work. Lots of times I get out at 8:30 pm to 9 pm. Then the drive home is about 15 minutes so I usually get in my room to settle in close to 10 pm and when it gets to that time of the night I am ready to go to sleep. So it takes a lot of self-discipline and organization to make sure I get all my homework done before work. Even then it’s hard because I don’t have any free time between the transition of school and work. My free blocks really end up saving the day.” Balancing school and work can be a hefty task, but it is something that Faith can handle.
Faith is a hostess at Pearl Restaurant and Oyster Bar. She enjoys greeting people, setting up the seating and reservation plans, and taking the take-out orders. The most challenging part of her position is developing a type of social skill to be able to talk calmly and maturely to adults, especially when they are upset. Although this may be a challenge for Faith, she highlights something very important.
She was asked if anything she has done in the classroom has helped her with her work life. She states, “My vocabulary is very teenage-like and now I am trying to develop a more mature manner to be able to socialize with all ages and also to be taken seriously. The one thing in school that has helped me with my job is the presentations I have to do in class. The presentations always give me good practice to speak. I learn to enunciate and speak clearly for multiple people. Presentations are also slowly helping me get through my slight shy trait. I am slowly starting to feel more comfortable talking to strangers and not feeling a social anxiety factor in any conversation.”
Faith is a wonderful student who exemplifies the work between in school and outside of school. Keep up the great work, Faith.
