Recently, we asked The Winchendon School | NYC senior Misora to document the last five days leading up to her hitting the “submit” button on her Early Decision college application. She’s named this series “The Countdown to Submit.” Here’s her story.
[T-5, Wednesday]:
NYC Globalization class at the Islamic Cultural Center for impact learning!
To further expand our knowledge of the Middle East and its culture and religion, we made our way to the Islamic Cultural Center, a mosque, for our impact learning session. We had an amazing opportunity to talk with the assistant imam, and observe the praying service, some things that are hard to experience on our own! Impact learning is not only a good excuse to get out of the classroom and school, but also, it is a great time to pursue an interest.
[T-4, Thursday]:
Internship at Winch!
I have been passionate about digital marketing, and it is truly amazing to have a chance to further explore my interest with the marketing team at the school I currently attend. Big thank you to Mr.Kerney (Executive Director) and Mrs.Schultz (Director of Marketing) for the real-life experience!
[T-3, Friday]:
Private college essay work session during a free period
Getting your application essays checked by someone else is always a great idea! Here, I am working on one of my essays during my free period with Mr.Magee, my English teacher, who happens to have a free period as well. With only a few days left until early submission, I cannot let my free period be my free time. I am grateful to have supportive adults around me at school.
[T-2, Saturday]:
Pep Rally
Usually, on Saturdays, my synchronized skating team has practice from early in the morning until the afternoon. Today was the day to present our hard work to our families and other skaters within the organization.
[T-1, Sunday]:
Balancing skating and school life
Being a Team USA skater and a senior in high school is certainly not easy. On the weekends, my schedule is filled with on-ice time, and there is very little time to work on homework. But, I try my best to get most of my work done while I travel (NY< >CT), and do the rest when I get home.
[Day of Submission, Monday]:
First app officially done!
Many drafts later, I finally submitted my first application! Before submitting though, I used my free periods to continue brushing up my essays. A quiet space in school allowed me to focus and finish editing.
