Students at The Winchendon School commemorated the National School Walkout with a peaceful walkout. Those students who wished, silently left their classes about 10AM on Friday, April 20th, the 19th Anniversary of the Columbine Shooting in Colorado. Students participated with thousands of students across the country, as they walked from their classrooms to the school gym. There, they were able to register to vote and were asked to sign a petition for universal background checks for gun purchases. As with the Service Learning groups at The Winchendon School, this event was student-driven and student organized. It’s important to note that not all students participated in the event, inspiring thoughtful discussion.
