GROWING AS A LEADER, PERFORMER, INNOVATOR, AND FINDING THE PERFECT COLLEGE TO MATCH
“
After a few years, I became another person, my worldviews changed and shifted so much. I was a four year senior, so now I say I was born and raised in Russia, but I grew up in the States. It was formative. I am who I am today because of Winch. I wrote a poem in Mr. Magee's class once: ‘I thank you for the way I am today’
”
Alice threw herself into every aspect of the community at Winchendon and left as a trailblazer.
- Coming from Russia as a freshman, Alice used Winch as her springboard, excelling as a campus leader in the performing arts, service learning, and so many other aspects of our community. She was also a pioneer in our now school-wide ColLAB program.
- Through her time at Winch, Alice became an accidental innovator. At the end of her freshman year, she was asked to join a new immersive learning program that would eventually be called ColLAB. She was initially skeptical, but took the leap. Over the next three years, she built a community of trailblazers and developed the decisiveness and adaptability required to pilot her own ideas.
- Through her experience with ColLABs, Alice learned how to direct her own learning. She was able to design her own classes, trips, projects, internships, and was given a lot of autonomy. Alice’s ColLAB internship at Heywood Hospital, where she saw a 7 hour natural labor and 3 C-sections, helped to guide her summer job search. She has gained the confidence to manage her endeavors in order to be successful, a skill that has served her well at Quest University.
