The Winchendon School’s own Kailyn R. ‘18 was a national honorable mention and Massachusetts award winner for the second year in a row in the name of the National Center for Women in Information Technology ‘s “Aspirations in Computing.”
The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing (AiC) honors high school women who are active and interested in computing and technology, and encourages them to pursue their passions. This multi-tiered competition includes recognition at the national and local levels, serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and all U.S. overseas military bases.
Kailyn, one of the few females in TWS’ Robotics program, was also a part of Winch’s robotics construction team (named Cognitive Hazard) in two district competitions; for six weeks, Kailyn and her team worked on their robot design and built the necessary machinery, refining and renovating along the way, before heading to the Greater Boston District Event.
Winchendon School Director of Information Technology and Cognitive Hazard coach Peter Blais not only sees a future for Kailyn in the field, but females in general. “I believe that all of our young women who are interested in technology should apply for the NCWIT. It would be a good problem for us to have other eligible women apply for the award.”
