Volleyball Senior Game
The Winchendon Wapitis triumphed over the visiting 16-0 undefeated Portsmouth Abbey School Ravens in an exciting 4 game home match on Wednesday 11/10. The Wapitis won 3 sets to 1 in what were all closely matched, competitive games.
1st game, 25-20 Win- Winchendon rallied from a 0-7 deficit to come back and win game one.
2nd game, 23-25 Loss- Down several points at one point in the game, Winchendon went on to exchange the lead often with PSA. But in the end, the Ravens were able to squeak out this very close game.
3rd game, 25-17 Win- Winchendon recovered from its second loss to win game 3 resoundingly.
4th game, 25-21 Win- Julia G. spiked the ball once and then again when it was returned for the deciding point to end the 4th and final exciting game.
Highlights- Team defensive blocks led by Zoe T. and Naomi B., great defense with numerous saves by Maria de la Mora, Betina W., Jocelyn H., and strong serves by Sarah I., Betina, Julia, and Zoe proved too much to handle for the PSA Ravens.
Coach Harrington stated, “Communication and team defense were the keys to our success in our match-up against this very strong team. I’m very proud of every player on the roster. They had great hustle, and their positive attitude helped lead to the win. It was a great way to end the regular season for their Senior Day.”
A big thank you to Winchendon’s supportive crowd of family, friends, and faculty whose enthusiasm helped the morale of the volleyball athletes throughout the contest!
The team advances to the playoffs on Wednesday, Nov 17th. The location is still to be determined.
