With the winter season around the corner, The Winchendon School’s Power 5 Boys Basketball team took a trip down south to compete in the West Florida Prep Invitational Tournament in Leesburg, Florida. This tournament consisted of 8 teams, all of which were teams representing different prep schools. The Winchendon School’s Power 5 basketball team was the only team from outside of Florida invited to play.
Being the only team from outside of Florida, the Power 5 basketball team had something to prove, and they did just that. The team was able to successfully start their season, winning the tournament and bringing hardware back to The Winchendon School to be displayed on campus.
Coach Green commented on the team’s first games of the season stating, “This year’s team has a chemistry unlike any other I have ever been involved with. Not only is it evident on the court but you see it on campus as they are always hanging out together and with the student body also.” It is an exciting time for the Power 5 basketball team.
With the success on the court during the tournament, there were certainly players to highlight, but the entire team effort is what propelled The Winchendon School Power 5 basketball team to success. “Zee McCown, Ethan Robertson, and Nate Robertson were the catalysts for the team during the tournament but our bench was really the MVP of the tournament with their enthusiasm. This gave our players on the floor a big edge knowing their teammates were just as much into the games as they were,” Coach Green stated.
With the success in Florida and the start of the season, the players and coaches are excited to see what the rest of the 2023-2024 season will bring.
