While the role of Mariette Martinez, The Winchendon School’s Strength and Conditioning Coach, is to work with student-athletes on their overall speed, strength, and power by developing systematic training programs for both TWS teams and individual athletes, it is the job of the student to be sure their fuel intake (food) meets the needs to fuel performance. Working with TWS to help our student-athletes in making proper pre and post-game food decisions is our food service provider SAGE. Sage’s Performance Spotlight‘s Fueling Your Team program draws upon guidelines laid out by the United States Olympic Committee, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and other sports nutrition associations. What could this look like to our students? On Mountain Day, students were offered from scratch granola bars and housemade sport drinks before heading off for their climb to the top of Monadnock.
