It’s hard to say who’s more excited to be back on campus and in classes, the students or the teachers!
Dr. Freidman posted on his Twitter account, “It’s our first day back in the classroom at @thewinchschool and my AP US Government and Politics students don’t miss a beat. My “F block” class dove right in, crushing a Socratic seminar (at a safe social distance) about campaigns and the electoral process.”
And in physics, the class was back together after spring break. They worked together to run a lab to verify the equation for centripetal force. The class has been working with the equations since returning from spring break, and took the opportunity to show that the equations do work in the real world as well.
Here, Brian is spinning rubber stoppers while Andrew and Alessandro record the time; the class then calculated whether the tension in the string matches the expected calculations!
And in Ms. Stoll’s Introduction to Physics class, the class completed a momentum egg drop lab. The student assignment was to makeshift an airbag out of paper and tape and it needed to be freestanding. An egg was dropped off of the first-floor balcony of the dorm.
As you can see, there were many failed attempts, but the students learned what they did wrong! Some of our best learning comes from our failures!
