The newly renovated Fitness Center located in the Rotenberg Gymnasium officially opened over Family Weekend, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony!
The much loved and used Fitness Center in the Rotenberg Gymnasium received a facelift this summer. Current families, alumni families, and friends worked together and donated to the School’s Grow Stronger Fund. The Fund made it possible for new windows, allowing natural light into the mezzanine where the Fitness Center is housed, to be installed augmenting the new lighting system, floors, sound system, and updated equipment.
On Friday evening head of school, Laurie Lambert opened the ceremonies by recounting the days when the Fitness Center was in the old boiler room and more recently, sharing space with the laundry room. Surrounded by parents, faculty, staff, and students, School CEO, John Kerney, and Dan Chreitan Athletic Director, both thanked the donors and spoke of the history of competitive sports at The Winchendon School.
In addition to renovating the Fitness Center, the School hired Mariette Martinez, a certified Strength and Conditioning coach to work with athletic teams and individual students. Coach Toffey, Varsity Baseball Coach and Director of Admissions has the baseball team working with Coach Martinez and is already seeing the group of athletes coming together as a team. Reflecting on the recent upgrades Coach Toffey said, “The renovations of the Fitness Center has been a game changer for our program, but more significant than the new equipment is the addition of Coach Martinez. Coach Martinez provides our students with college-level strength and conditioning program during the prep school years.”
